In a hurry the group has now made it to the hospital in search of a way to help stop the infection that has afflicted Mya. When they arrive all seems calm but then they learn from someone inside that everything is not as it seems.

Walking to back
DAVID
We’re here. How is she?
ISABELLE
She feels worse.
LENA
See if you can find a stretcher for her. She needs a place to fully
stretch out and rest.
DAVID
Chris and I are headed out now. We’ll keep our eyes peeled.
Walking
DAVID
Alright Chris we’re gonna clear the area. Keep your eyes peeled for a stretcher. If you find one bring it back.
CHRIS
Sounds good.
LUTHER
I’m coming with you.
DAVID
We don’t know what we’re going to find in there. Are you sure?
LUTHER
I understand but I’m still coming.
DAVID
If you insist, then take this.
Gun check
DAVID
It seems like you know what you’re doing.
LUTHER
I wasn't always a cameraman.
ISABELLE
I’m coming too.
DAVID
I thought you were looking after Mya.
ISABELLE
Mom and Tanya are there.
DAVID
Ok well when we get in there Izzy you’re with me and Luther you
go with Chris. I was just telling Chris to look for a stretcher so
so everyone keep a look out. Secure the floor as best as
you can and see if you can get a location on the pharmacy.
CHRIS
Got it.
Walking
ISABELLE
I’m surprised you didn’t put up a fight when I said I’m coming.
DAVID
Ha. I thought about it but we just had that talk and I’m not about
to argue with you or your mother.
Beat
ISABELLE
So werewolves.
DAVID
Uh. Oh. Yea, werewolves.
ISABELLE
I wonder what else is out there.
Echo location sound
DAVID
Shhh.
Silence
Suspense tone
DAVID
Did you hear something?
ISABELLE
No. What did you hear?
DAVID
I don’t know. Maybe nothing.
Walking
Watch beeps
ISABELLE
It’s time to head back. What are you looking at?
DAVID
It’s a directory. We need the pharmacy. It’s on the fifth floor.
ISABELLE
How are we gonna get Mya up there?
DAVID
I’ll carry Mya if I have to. Let’s head back.
Walking.
CHRIS
Finally. What took y’all so long?
DAVID
We went a bit too far. Let’s hurry back. You couldn’t find a stretcher?
CHRIS
No. Just this wheelchair.
DAVID
We’re going up to the fifth floor so that may work better.
LUTHER
Why the fifth floor?
DAVID
That’s where the pharmacy is. That’s the best bet to get what
we need.
Walking.
LENA
You’re back. How is it in there?
DAVID
It seems safe. There’s three ways in. If we barricade those we
should be able to rest for a while.
LUTHER
I’m going to get Mya ready. If we need to go up to the fifth floor
we should get going.
Walking - Fade
LENA
The fifth floor? Why up there?
DAVID
The fifth floor is where the pharmacy is.
ISABELLE
I’m going to grab a few things from the back of the bus.
DAVID
Hey. While you’re back there grab the yellow bag. Chris, when
everyone is out, move the bus to the back?
CHRIS
Yea. I got it.
Beat
LENA
Are you sure we’ll be safe in there?
DAVID
We searched the area and saw nothing dangerous. We’ll
have to be careful on the upper floors though.
LENA
Okay. Well I guess as long as we’re careful.
Beat
DAVID
I’ve got a question for you.
LENA
What is it?
DAVID
What do you think about Vanessa?
LENA
Well we haven’t had a meaningful conversation yet, but
she seems okay. Nothing to worry about.
DAVID
Okay.
LENA
What’s that look for?
DAVID
She’s been awake for a while now. She’s not talking?
LENA
Oh no. She actually didn’t stop talking for a while, but most of that
was asking questions to Tanya.
DAVID
About what?
LENA
About what happened in the police station.
Beat
DAVID
What did happen in the police station?
LENA
So apparently the amount of paranormal activity has increased
because of everything that has happened so far. But despite all
that ghost still can’t interact with us because they need to absorb
a lot of energy. Without that energy the most they can do is moan
and possibly give a glimpse of themselves. Tanya said there’s a
way around that though. A medium. Which Vanessa is. She had
no idea. That’s a lot to take in, I know. But even more so for her
since she was possessed by the ghost. And apparently the ghost
shared her story through Vanessa.
DAVID
Wow.
LENA
I know.
DAVID
But that explains it.
LENA
Explains what?
DAVID
Why Chris was so damn giddy the whole ride here.
LENA
Oh yea. Well he may see more of it.
Walking - Fades in
ISABELLE
I’ve got the bag.
DAVID
Thanks.
TANYA
We’re ready.
Bus starts in background
LUTHER
Let’s head in. Every second counts.
DAVID
You’re right. Let’s go.
Walking
DAVID
Izzy. Stay down here and wait for Chris?
ISABELLE
Ugh. If I must.
DAVID
You do. When he comes in, you two see if you can
barricade the three doors. Do it quickly and we’ll see
you up there.
ISABELLE
Okay.
Walking
DAVID
The stairs are over here. Follow me.
Walking
Door opens
LENA
It’s so dark.
DAVID
I know. My flashlight is barely helping.
Walking up stair well- Echo
TANYA
(worried tone)
Something feels off.
LUTHER
Well that’s not good. Every time she’s said that something weird
has happened.
TANYA
(worried tone)
We should get out of here quick.
DAVID
We’re on the third floor so it’s not much further.
Beat
DAVID
Luther let me know if you need help carrying Mya.
LUTHER
I’ll be fine.
Beat
DAVID
Did anyone hear that sound?
LENA
No. What was it?
DAVID
I don’t know but I heard it earlier too
LUTHER
Tanya, did you hear anything?
TANYA
(worried tone)
No but I still have a feeling that we’re being watched.
DAVID
We’re here.
Door opens
Walking
DAVID
Luther here’s a stretcher.
Beat
LUTHER
Let’s find a room to hold up in.
Beat
VANESSA
What’s that?
Door closes
LENA
What is it?
VANESSA
That door down the hall just opened and closed.
LUTHER
Maybe just the wind.
VANESSA
No. I swear I saw someone peek out.
DAVID
Well let’s find out.
Walking
DAVID
Yo there is someone in there.
Trying to move door handle
DAVID
Damn door is locked.
ROSE
(behind door)
You should let them in.
LAURA
(behind door)
No. We don't know them.
LENA
What’s going on?
DAVID
It looks like theres more than one in there.
Beat
DAVID
They’re not going to open up.
LUTHER
Let’s just go to the next room.
DAVID
Looks like we’ll have to.
TANYA
Vanessa is still pretty weak. You can leave Mya here too. I’ll sit with them. Let us know when you find a room.
DAVID
Ok. We’ll be right back. Yell if you need us.
Walking
Door opens
DAVID
What is this?!
LENA
What is it? (gasp) Oh no. The body looks like it was torn apart
by a wild animal.
LUTHER
There’s blood all over the room.
LENA
We can’t stay here.
LUTHER
Let’s try the next room.
Walking
Door opens
DAVID
It’s the same in here.
LUTHER
I’ll check the next room.
LENA
I’ll look over here.
Beat
LUTHER
Same here.
LENA
It’s every where.
DAVID
We should leave…now.
Walking - Quick
DAVID
Tanya help Vanessa up. We’re leaving.
LUTHER
I’ve got Mya. We still need to find medicine for her.
DAVID
I know. But I don’t want to find out what it was that did that.
Door opens
ISABELLE
Look out!
CHRIS
Close the door.
Door slams closed
DAVID
What is it?!
ISABELLE
There’s something in there.
Beat
DAVID
I don’t see anything.
ISABELLE
Believe me they’re in there.
DAVID
Well I guess we can’t go back that way.
LENA
What’re we gonna do?
LUTHER
What about the people in that room? They’ve got to know
something.
DAVID
Let’s find out.
Walking
DAVID
Hello.
Banging on door.
DAVID
Hey!
Banging on door
LUTHER
Should we just break it in?
DAVID
I’m going to.
TANYA
(say the wait with an elevated voice - don’t yell it but talk normally)
Wait! Let me talk to them.
Beat
TANYA
(try to be convincing when saying these lines)
Hello. (beat) What’s your name? (beat) Well I’m Tanya.
Believe me, I get it. You’re scared. Everything is different and you’ve probably seen some things that make you question reality. We are in the same boat. We’re trying to
survive, just like you. But now we have someone in our group
who’s injured and her survival depends on you. Give us the
chance to save her…and maybe we can help you too.
Pause
DAVID
Well that didn’t work.
Door unlocks and opens
LAURA
Come in. Hurry.
DAVID
Thanks. We appreciate it.
LAURA
Let me see the girl.
DAVID
Okay then. Nice to meet you too.
Beat
LAURA
This wound is infected. How long has she been like this?
LUTHER
We don’t know exactly but we think about a week.
LAURA
This should’ve been taken care of sooner.
LUTHER
Yea we know that.
LAURA
We’re gonna need to get some antibiotics quick.
DAVID
Okay well tell us where they are and we’ll go get it.
Door handle turns
LAURA
No! You can’t go out there.
Beat
DAVID
You obviously know something. Tell us what’s out there.
LAURA
When this first started many of the staff left to be with family but a
few of us stayed to look out for the people here that still needed
our help. As doctors we could’t abandon our patients but lucky for
us there were others who stayed to help keep everything running.
After a couple weeks I started noticing some doctors and staff had
gone missing. I thought nothing of it at first. This is a lot to take
on for even the toughest of people so I assumed they just left.
Then I started noticing some of the patients going missing. I
would’ve thought the same thing with them, maybe they just left to
be with family, but some were bed ridden. There’s no way
they could’ve left on their own. It was at that point that I started
noticing the blood. Not a lot, but enough to know something
wasn’t right. Then one day I saw them. I was walking through the halls and came across, creatures. Their skin is gray, it
appears malnourished and looking almost like rubber. They look
human but act far from it. They’re capable of walking bipedal but
choose to walk crouched over on all fours, and their eyes are
glossed over. Just as I started backing away one of them let off a
small screeching noise and moved its head. It stopped and gazed
at me for a moment and as I stood there frozen listening to their
screeching I realized something. They’re blind and they appear to
use something similar to echo location. After what felt like
forever, it let out a long ear splitting scream alerting the others to
my presence. I ran and eventually locked myself in a room. I was
stuck in there for days, watching and listening as they fed on
my patients and colleagues.
ISABELLE
Where are they now?
LAURA
I don’t know where they go but they do appear to have a
schedule. I told you not to go out there because they should be
coming out in about 15 minutes.
DAVID
And how long until they leave again?
LAURA
Anywhere from 8 - 10 hours.
DAVID
Do you think Mya will be ok for that long?
Beat
DAVID
I didn’t think so. Is what we need on this floor?
LAURA
Yes.
DAVID
Good then 15 minutes should be more than enough time. Tell
me what you need and where I need to go to get it.
LAURA
Okay. Do it quick. Go to the end of this hall, turn left, go through
the first set of double doors on your left then to the end of the
hall. The pharmacy will be on your right.
LENA
That was a lot, don’t you think she should go with you?
DAVID
No. What if Mya or this other woman need her here for
something. I would like for someone to come with me though.
CHRIS
I’m coming.
LENA
Me too.
Beat
LENA
Don’t look at me like that. I won’t be any good around here so I’ll
come be an extra set of eyes.
DAVID
Ok. Do you want to carry my sidearm?
LENA
Oh no. You know I’m no good with those. If Chris is coming then
I’ll just stay between you two.
DAVID
Well I guess we’re ready.
LAURA
Does anyone know if she’s allergic to anything?
LUTHER
We don’t.
LAURA
That will make this difficult. (beat) When you get there, you’re looking for clindamycin, cefadroxil, cefalexin and epinephrine.
DAVID
Got it. Izzy set the walkie to channel 2.
Walkie clicks - static
ISABELLE
It’s on.
DAVID
Good. Hey before we go. What’s your name?
LAURA
Yea sorry. I’m Laura and that’s Rose.
DAVID
Ok. Laura. We’ll be back in 10.
Door opens
Walking - Fades
LUTHER
So what do you think these things are?
TANYA
I’m not sure. I’ve never seen anything like what she’s describing.
The fact of the matter is this world is vast and I don’t know
everything in it.
LUTHER
That doesn’t make me feel good.
Walking - Background
VANESSA
You mind if I sit here?
LAURA
Go ahead.
VANESSA
How are you holding up?
LAURA
Considering everything that’s going on I could be better.
VANESSA
Yea same here. Wait till you see the ghosts.
LAURA
Ghosts?!
VANESSA
Ha. Yea that’s how I felt too. My rational mind wouldn’t allow me
to believe it, but here I am hiding out from weird human-
animal looking creatures.
Rose coughs
Laura walks over to her
LAURA
Are you okay?
ROSE
I’m fine. I’m fine.
VANESSA
She has breast cancer?
LAURA
Stomach. How did you know? Are you a doctor?
VANESSA
Yes but not MD. My doctorate is in engineering. Both my parents were in the medical field though. They really wanted me to follow in their footsteps and I did for a while. Until I realized I was more interested in how all the machines in the hospital worked over what medicines did what. They didn’t like that very much.
LAURA
I bet.
Laura yawns
VANESSA
When was the last time you slept?
LAURA
How can I sleep during this?
VANESSA
I get it, but you’d be no good to anyone if you can’t think straight.
Beat
VANESSA
Go. Rest for a little. I can sit with her.
Beat
ROSE
Go.
Beat
LAURA
Thank you.
VANESSA
No problem.
Beat
VANESSA
Well hello Rose. In all this we didn’t get proper introductions. I’m
Vanessa.
ROSE
Hello. It’s nice to meet you. Thank you for giving her a
break. She’s been watching over me continuously for a long time.
VANESSA
Of course. Anyway I can help. How long have you been here for?
ROSE
I was brought in the day it all changed. I had no clue what
was wrong with me, then the doctors told me I had stomach
cancer. They gave me 6 months to live. *Haha* Yet here I am a
year later out lasting all of them. Mostly because of her. She kept
saying it’s a miracle I’m still alive but I kept telling her, it’s
because I haven’t fulfilled my purpose on this earth yet.
VANESSA
Gonna be hard to do that now.
ROSE
Not at all. A persons purpose is not connected to how well the
world is. It could be something as grand as saving someones life
or as simple as sharing a story of the old world with the next
generation. Either way, I will know what it is when it comes. I think Laura is serving her purpose now. She said she would never
leave me here and I appreciate that but when I told her I didn’t
want to be a burden I don’t think she understood what I meant. If
it comes to saving my life or hers, I want her to leave me.
VANESSA
I’m sure she understands what you meant. (Beat) But that
doesn’t mean she won’t fight for you.
ROSE
Yea.
FADE OUT
Walking
LENA
Here’s the double doors.
Doors creak half open
LENA
How does it look?
CHRIS
Looks clear.
Door creaks open
Walking
Echo location sound
LENA
Did you hear that?
DAVID
I did. Don’t worry we still have some time.
LENA
How do we know she’s telling us the truth?
DAVID
What reason would she have to lie?
LENA
I can think of several reasons.
DAVID
She’s just scared. Just like how anyone else would be in her
situation. I believe she wants to help.
CHRIS
This is the door.
Door opens
CHRIS
There’s so many cabinets.
DAVID
What was it we’re looking for?
LENA
In this bag we’re going to put the clindamycin, cefadroxil, cefalexin and epinephrine. Chris grab everything else and put it in this bag.
Bottles moving
DAVID
This cabinet seems to have everything we need.
LENA
Good.
CHRIS
I’m almost finished clearing this cabinet.
LENA
This one is almost clear. Chris bring your bag over here.
DAVID
That should be enough for now. Let’s head back.
Walking
Door creaks
Walking
LENA
Oh no.
CHRIS
What should we do?
DAVID
There’s only one. I say we just try to kill it and keep moving.
Beat
DAVID
Wait Chris. Don’t shoot it. Remember these things use sound to
see. That shot could attract more.
CHRIS
Well what do you suggest?
Sword unsheath
CHRIS
You’re gonna have to get very close to use that machete.
DAVID
This is the best way.
LENA
Be careful.
Walking slowly
Machete swing
Body hits ground
DAVID
Let’s go! We don’t have much time.
Running
CHRIS
Shit.
Echo sound
LENA
The hall is filled with them. What are we gonna do?
CHRIS
Back up slowly.
Echo sound
Loud screech
DAVID
Oh no. Go now!
Running
Door opens
Door slams
DAVID
What the hell!
CHRIS
Lena, help me push this against the door.
Grunting
LENA
That won’t hold forever. What are we gonna do now?
Walkie static
DAVID
Hey. We’ve got a problem.
