David, Lena and Chris have been pinned down by unknown creatures while trying to retrieve medicine needed for Mya's care. As they struggle to keep the creatures out of the room, David makes a call to Izzy to alert them of their situation. Its then that they learn that light may be their best shot at getting out alive. So Isabelle, Luther and Vanessa head out to try to bring a little light to the building.

Hey. We have a problem.
Static
ISABELLE
Go ahead.
Static
Banging in background
DAVID
We’re pinned down. Ask Laura how many of these things are there.
Static
ISABELLE
You heard that. Here tell him.
LAURA
I’ve seen dozens at one time but I’ve heard more in the shadows. To be honest I just don’t know an exact number.
Static
DAVID
Not good. Well we killed one and that’s good news. It means they
can be killed. This group we ran into though came out of every possible shadow.
LUTHER
Does he want back up. Let me see that.
Beat
LUTHER
David. If they can be killed why don’t we fight our way out?
DAVID
I thought about that too, but just from the amount that we’ve seen
we’d run out of ammo long before we got out.
Static
LAURA
It wouldn’t work either way. The ones you’re seeing are the bold
ones but even more dangerous are the ones that hide in the
shadows. They lay low waiting for an opening and once they see
it. They strike. But they don’t kill you. No. (beat) They injure you
and wait in the shadows for you to die. They all used to be like
this. Like scavengers, but it changes as they go longer without
food. Every once in a while a group like yourselves would
venture in here looking for help. But they would only find death.
ROSE
It’s been a while since the last group. So the ones that are
attacking now are starving and it will take a lot to stop them.
LUTHER
David did you hear all of that?
DAVID
Most of it.
Beat
DAVID
You two have been here a long time. You’ve observed them
through all this. Do you know anything that hurts them other than
shooting and slashing?
LAURA
Yes we do. Light. It didn’t kill them but it appeared to cause them
crippling pain.
DAVID
Light?
CHRIS
(background) Where the hell are we supposed to get enough light
to make them all run?
LAURA
There’s no where. Except maybe if you could get the generator
running again.
DAVID
Generator?
LUTHER
There’s a generator for this place?
LAURA
Yes. In fact a while ago when our former maintenance worker Joe
was alive he said the generator was gassed up to last much
longer then it had. So they must’ve done something to it. He
went down to check it out and we haven’t seen him since.
LUTHER
David hold on. We may have a plan.
LAURA
There isn’t much hope for that. The generator is in the
basement. It must be completely dark down there.
LUTHER
You said earlier that they all come out at certain times so we’ll
hope they cleared the basement. How do I get down there?
LAURA
This is crazy! You can’t go down there.
LUTHER
Anything is better than just sitting here waiting here to die. So
again, how do I get down there?
Beat
LAURA
(deep breath out) Joe said the most direct way is through the
parking garage. There’s a door in the north-west corner that
leads down.
LUTHER
Good. Did he ever say where the generator is down there?
LAURA
No.
ROSE
He talked about it with me once. He said it’s straight down the
hall, turn left and the generator room will be on the right. You’ll
see a sign on the door.
LUTHER
That makes it a little easier.
Static
LUTHER
David we have a plan. I need to head down into the basement.
I may be able to get the generator running and the lights back
on.
DAVID
Sounds good. Izzy, that yellow bag I told you to get earlier. Open
it.
Beat
ISABELLE
Rope?
DAVID
You may need that since going down the stairs is no longer an
option.
LUTHER
Can y’all hold out until this is done?
DAVID
We don’t really have another option. Get going.
Beat
VANESSA
I’m coming too.
LUTHER
Why?
VANESSA
If these things did anything to the generator then chances are it’s
in bad shape. I’m a mechanical engineer and you’d need me
with you.
LUTHER
Fine. Try to keep up.
TANYA
Are you sure you’re up to it?
VANESSA
No. But this is the best way to get out of here and I know I can
help.
Beat
LUTHER
And what are you doing? You’re not coming with me.
ISABELLE
No, you’re coming with me.
LUTHER
(groan) Fine.
TANYA
In that case I guess I should go as well.
LAURA
No! Please could at least one of you stay with us.
Beat
TANYA
Of course I’ll stay.
ISABELLE
Okay then. Let’s go.
Climbing down rope.
ISABELLE
(to self) Shit.
Beat
LUTHER
Why’d you stop?
ISABELLE
The rope stops about 20 feet of the ground. We’ll have to jump.
VANESSA
What did she say?
LUTHER
We have to jump. We’ve run out of rope.
VANESSA
What?!
Landing sound x2
LUTHER
Vanessa we don’t have all day.
VANESSA
I guess this is a bad time to tell you about my fear of heights.
LUTHER
Oh what the hell.
Beat
LUTHER
Jump down. I’ll catch you.
VANESSA
I can’t.
LUTHER
Trust me. I won’t drop you.
VANESSA
(to self) (*)
Okay Vanessa you can do this. You can do this. Just let go. Just
let go. (deep breath out) No. No, I can’t.
ISABELLE
I don’t think she’s gonna do it.
LUTHER
We really don’t have time for this.
ISABELLE
(to Luther) You’re right. (yell to Vanessa) Vanessa get out of your own head for a moment! Can you hear me?!
VANESSA
Yes.
ISABELLE
Good. When we were speaking with my dad did you hear the
banging in the background!
VANESSA
Yes.
ISABELLE
So you understand that every second is critical in saving them! I
know you don’t want their deaths on your conscious just because
you couldn’t let go of a rope! So like Luther said, he’s going to
catch you! Right, Luther?
LUTHER
Right.
ISABELLE
So Vanessa. On the count of three I need you to let go, okay?
VANESSA
Okay.
ISABELLE
One….Two….Three!
LUTHER
Well that didn’t work. Any other ideas?
ISABELLE
Yea. Vanessa, listen to me.
Gun cocks
ISABELLE
You either let go of that rope on the count of three or I will shoot
your arm and make you.
VANESSA
What?! You wouldn’t.
ISABELLE
Both of my parents need our help right now. And the only reason
I’m not going to shoot you dead is because I believe you can still
help us achieve this goal. So we’re gonna do this again. You
have to the count of three.
VANESSA
What? Wait?!
LUTHER
Are you sure about this?
ISABELLE
Don’t try and stop me.
LUTHER
Vanessa I think she’s serious!
ISABELLE
One! Two!
Gun shot
Vanessa screams
LUTHER
See. I said I would catch you.
VANESSA
Thanks.
Beat
VANESSA
Izzy. Uh would you have really shot me.
ISABELLE
I’m a really good shot. (beat) Let’s get out of here. I’m sure
something heard all that noise. The garage is this way.
Walking
ISABELLE
This is it. I’m not sure where the northwest corner is but there is a
staircase near the elevators. They only go up and lead to the
hospital.
LUTHER
I only see one other door, so that must be it.
Walking
Door opens
VANESSA
It’s really dark in there.
ISABELLE
Here take this flashlight and stay between us. If we have light
all around we may be able to ward off these things.
LUTHER
Well hopefully they’re not down here any more, but
just in case stay quiet and stay together.
Ominous tone (fade out) - Silence - Water dripping
Footsteps down stairs (echo)
VANESSA
Did you see that?
LUTHER
See what?
VANESSA
I saw something moving down there.
LUTHER
I don’t see anything. (pause) Come on.
Walking
LUTHER
Vanessa, ease up on my arm. Your nails feel like they’re breaking
skin.
VANESSA
Sorry.
Beat
VANESSA
There it is again.
Stop walking
LUTHER
I do see something moving down there.
Ominous tone - rats squeak
LUTHER
It’s just rats.
Walking continues - through puddles
LUTHER
This corridor seems to stretch on forever.
VANESSA
We have to go all the way to the end of this?!
LUTHER
Don’t worry. Nothings going to get you.
VANESSA
Wait!
Walking Fade away
ISABELLE
Hey! Where are you going?
LUTHER
Hey shine your light back over there.
ISABELLE
Why, did you see something?
LUTHER
I think so.
ISABELLE
I don’t see anything.
Beat
LUTHER
Maybe not.
ISABELLE
What do you think you saw?
LUTHER
I thought I saw two circles shining out of the dark.
ISABELLE
Like eyes.
LUTHER
Exactly.
ISABELLE
(whisper) Vanessa….(stern) Vanessa!
VANESSA
Hey.
ISABELLE
What the hell were you doing?
VANESSA
That was the maintenance room. I was looking for this.
ISABELLE
A tool box.
LUTHER
Good thinking.
VANESSA
Thanks.
ISABELLE
Okay. Let’s keep moving.
Walking
ISABELLE
Luther, I now have the feeling we’re being watched.
LUTHER
Yea, it’s definitely not the rats.
Walking
LUTHER
We’re here.
Door opens
LUTHER
Looks clear
VANESSA
Let’s get to work.
LUTHER
Izzy you think you can handle look out by yourself?
ISABELLE
Of course. Go.
LUTHER
Vanessa what are we looking at.
VANESSA
Well the wires leading into the control have all been torn apart, the
belt is broken, some fuses seem blown and…it’s running low on
gas.
LUTHER
So what I’m hearing is that we can fix it.
VANESSA
Yes. But it’s gonna take time.
ISABELLE
We don’t have much of that.
LUTHER
I’ll get started on splicing the wires leading to the circuit breaker.
VANESSA
Okay. I’ll see what I can do about rewiring this fuse panel.
Beat
LUTHER
So you’re a mechanical engineer.
VANESSA
Yes.
LUTHER
What were you doing when the world went to shit?
VANESSA
I…I was hoping to create something that would change the
world.
LUTHER
Well it looks like you’re too late for that.
VANESSA
Yea a little.
LUTHER
Any ideas on what you were going to create to change the world?
VANESSA
Uh.
ISABELLE
Hey. How much longer?
VANESSA
You can’t rush these things.
ISABELLE
May have to. We’re getting an audience.
LUTHER
What?!
ISABELLE
Yea. They’re keeping to the shadows but I can see them
out there.
LUTHER
Can you tell how many?
ISABELLE
I count five so far.
VANESSA
Why don’t you just close the door?
ISABELLE
Not yet. I’d rather keep my eyes on them. It’s better to know what
they’ve got planned.
Echo skittering
LUTHER
I’m almost there. Vanessa, how about you?
VANESSA
I’m doing the best I can.
ISABELLE
(to self)
I think they know what we’re doing.
LUTHER
I got it.
VANESSA
I need a little more time.
LUTHER
I’ll fill the tank.
Pause
VANESSA
Okay. I’m finished. This is going to be a bit spotty but should hold
long enough for us to get out. (beat) Luther give me your belt.
LUTHER
What?! Why?
VANESSA
There’s no time to explain.
LUTHER
Ugh fine. (sarcastic) It’s not like I need it to keep my pants up or anything.
VANESSA
There we go. Try to start it up.
Button press - Generator start fail
ISABELLE
(to self) Yea they know what we’re doing. (to them) Here they
come!
Single shot
Door closes.
